About Phoenix Rouge Dance Studio
Why I Teach Sword Dance
I don’t just teach dance—I teach movement with purpose.
By weaving together dance, sword work, and the flowing principles of Tai Chi, I create a space where people can discover strength, balance, focus, and peace within themselves.
The sword is more than a prop. It teaches discipline, precision, confidence, and respect. Tai Chi reminds us to breathe, stay present, and move with intention. Dance brings joy, creativity, and freedom of expression.
Together, they become a moving meditation.
My greatest joy is watching someone walk into class carrying the weight of the day and leave standing taller, smiling brighter, and believing in themselves a little more. They don’t just learn choreography—they discover resilience, grace, confidence, and the quiet power that has been within them all along.
That is why I teach.
Because movement has the power to heal, to strengthen, and to transform—not just our bodies, but our hearts and minds as well.
If you know me, you’ll know I believe every movement has meaning. Every step, every breath, every turn of the sword is an opportunity to find harmony, strength, and joy. That’s the gift I hope every student takes home.

Why I Teach Dance
I teach dance because I know the difference it can make.
I’ve experienced how movement can lift your spirits, quiet your mind, and help you reconnect with yourself. It’s not about being the best dancer or getting every step right—it’s about discovering what dance can do for you.
I love watching people grow in confidence, stand a little taller, move a little more freely, and realize they’re capable of more than they believed.
Every person brings their own story, their own challenges, and their own strengths. Being able to guide them on that journey is a privilege.
If someone leaves my class feeling happier, stronger, more confident, or simply smiling a little more than when they arrived, then I’ve done what I set out to do.
That’s why I teach dance.
Our Story and Mission
Phoenix Rouge Dance Studio opened its doors May 2019. We are a small, friendly studio in Baton Rouge, located off Siegen Lane.
Our studio invites everyone, regardless of age or gender, to appreciate the beauty of the human body. We create friendships, community, confidence, and acceptance in a safe and friendly space.
“The studio experience is a non judgmental zone. We inspire our dancers as we dance together. We are a team and work as a team. We help each other out with technique and timing.” —Jayda, Student Troupe member
Students of belly dance join for many reasons, some of which are to improve posture/balance, strengthen the core, build confidence, release anxiety, reduce stress, increase energy, and improve self esteem.
